Asougi glances around the living room, actually taking in the residence itself now. In the midst of remembering everything and dealing with indoor rain storms, he hadn't really had the opportunity to do so before. ]
[He smiles as he gets up from his seat, expecting Asougi to follow suit.]
There's a room you can use upstairs in the attic, next to mine. Maybe I can find some spare clothes you can borrow too. [Eventhough Asougi is a few inches taller than him. Surely it'll be fine.]
[ He stands slowly and though he lifts a hand to his head, he glances over at Naruhodou and gives him a small smile back. It's not much, but it's a start. ]
The attic, huh. Let's see it, then. [ He'll just. not comment on the clothes for now. ]
[...you know, whether he wants it or not, Naruhodou is going to put an arm around Asougi's waist and let him have a shoulder to lean on, just in case.
He'll then take him upstairs, passed the second floor and to the attic, part room and part slowly becoming storage. There was definitely a bit of Naruhodou's mess to this attic, there were various junk from pawn shops everywhere, some things were actual gifts from friends sprinkled about. Amazingly there was still enough space for him to have an office set up here and a couch for his clients and other guests.]
Here, this is the room you can use. [He gestures to the door across from the stairway. Checking within, it's pretty bare bones. There was at least a bed, table and closet inside.] Mm, sorry. This is normally a guest room so there's not much...and it might be a little dusty. [Truthfully, he had this room setup in case Susato ever showed up...or in this case, Asougi.]
[ He genuinely tries not to lean against Naruhodou but as they walk up the stairs, Asougi finds himself leaning in just a bit. It's been an exhausting day on top of another exhausting day. Quietly, he glances around the attic as they step up there, frowning at the mess and clutter, and makes a mental note to spend the next few days at least cleaning up the attic while he recovers. Rest is good, but so is a project.
Slowly, Asougi pulls away from Naruhodou and steps over to the small room, opening the door. ]
. . . it should be fine.
[ He gives a firm nod at that. It wasn't much, but he could make some of it, at least. ]
[He nods as well and then proceeds to stand awkwardly at the doorway.] Well if...if you need anything else, I'll be here.
[Suddenly, he felt this chill creeping down his spine. If he didn't stay by his side, what would happen? Will Asougi be all right by himself?] Oh, I said I was going to find you some spare clothes, didn't I? [He'll try to go do that now.]
[ He catches how Naruhodou lingers at the doorway awkwardly and glances aside. First there was the whole "dying" thing and then the fact that he'd forgotten him entirely — in other words, a whole bundle of awful. Quietly, he starts to neaten up the room a touch.
It's a few moments before he speaks again, raising his voice so Naruhodou can hear him even from across the attic. ]
[Naruhodou remain focused on the task he had assigned himself, trying to keep this feeling of uneasiness at bay. Let's see, has to be some loose clothing. This robe might work, this shirt to and maybe these pajama pants. None of these things match with another, but at least he's sure they'll fit him.]
Huh? Oh, yes! [He just barely picked up that Asougi was talking to him. He comes back over with his pile of clothes.] There's some interesting restaurants we can go to here, oh and there's a spa. I'm sure you'd really enjoy that. I might be able to get us a discount there since I helped them out on a case.
[ Asougi glances down at the pile that Naruhodo brings in and briefly makes a mental note to go clothes shopping asap. Still, he takes them, setting them to the side for the time being. ]
Is that the trial you had mentioned earlier? . . . it would be nice to visit a spa.
[A nod.] It was animal cruelty. The culprit had attempted to murder three pet wyverns and tried to pin the blame on someone else.
[Don't mind him just deciding to sit on the bed. This bed has not been soaked by Holmes' rain cloud.] I ended up taking the case...or well, was asked to defend the accused and find the real culprit.
[His goes red slightly, not so much from the nudge but from expectation. Asougi always did have high regards of him being a lawyer.]
I uh...I managed to prove his innocence in the end. It was difficult, especially when I didn't have Susato by my side, but I managed to pinpoint the true culprit in the end. [He rubs the back of his neck.] It's kind of difficult to explain how I proved it, since it kind of involves something equivalent to magic.
So that means you're not even going to try to explain?
[ He's still trying to find his footing in this world — the rain clouds are still a large question mark in his mind — but that doesn't mean that he doesn't want to try and understand, especially if it led to a turnabout of sorts. ]
Well I...are you sure you can handle this right now? [Weren't you going to rest? Even Naruhodou needed like, a week to make sense of everything himself. He takes a deep breath, if Asougi wants it now, he'll do his best to explain it then.]
So, my client Abi-san, he has the ability to temporarily paralyze living beings just from glaring at them. He has the dragon's eyes or something like that. He went up to the spa that day to visit his brothers and found the wyverns already riled up by something, so he tried to calm them down. He ended up paralyzing them and himself, and this was where people claimed to have witnessed him doing the act. The wyverns were still fine at this point though, it was not until after the paralysis had worn off on Abi-san and he left that the culprit took advantage of the situation.
The paralysis on the wyverns hadn't fully worn off, so she used a power that exists here in this world. It's called Dunamis, a power to utilize your emotions as a tool. Even a normal person like me could learn Dunamis and basically gain magical powers. [He's starting to get into his storytelling now.] Anyway, she used the feelings of despair and attempted to suffocate the wyverns to death, making it look like it was my client's doing. She made a fatal mistake when she tried to frame Abi-san for the crime though. [There's that confident grin on his face. This was where he made his great turnabout.]
You see, there had been other pet related incidents prior to what happened with the wyverns, taken down in a similar method, and none of them matched Abi's MO. They looked like they had been paralyzed, but closer inspection of certain marks around the neck proves it was actually suffocation that killed them. We even had a dog who had been previously attacked, testify that Abi was nowhere nearby, he never picked up his scent at all. [He cross examined a dog, Asougi.] With that information, I was able to narrow it down to one person, the real culprit who had been present in each scenario.
[ He slowly leans back, settling in and listening in rapt attention as Naruhodou speaks. It had been an overwhelming day and sleep would probably be the best for him. But there was something comforting about being able to sit here with him, listening to him go on and on about something while occasionally needling him or giving him a small, satisfied nod. It was . . . normal, and normal had been in short supply these past few months.
Some of the details fly over his head, like the magic, "Dunamis," and everything, but the core still seems to be the same — Naruhodou believed in his client and did his due diligence. Asougi nods with satisfaction when he finishes. ]
It sounds like quite the case. [ Which he knows is an understatement, but he's tired. ] But if I'm understanding correctly, you took the rules of this world into account and then utilized that in your investigation?
[ What he really wants to ask is, was there actually a trial and who ran the prosecution, but that's also a can of worms he's not willing to open just yet here. ]
Mm. Investigation and trial procedures aren't that different from home, you just have to think a little more outside the box. Emotions are viable evidence here for example, since this whole world is basically run by our emotions. [He crosses his arms, humming to himself as he tries to recall any other details.] They also didn't have a seat of jurors like the British Court does, at least not in the one I handled. Because I'm not native, I'm currently only allowed to handle cases involving Otherworlders, people like us who were suddenly brought here from other worlds.
[He glances over to the door, looking out to the office area.] If you wanted to look into Veren's law system some more, I do have a few books here you can check out later. [Some he's read, most he has been slacking off on.]
[ His eyelids begin to slowly droop, the day finally catching up to him now that he's settled on a bed. Asougi shakes his head, trying to brush off some of the weariness, and leans forward to glance out into the office area as well. ]
I'll have to take a look at them. It sounds intriguing.
[ A puzzle for the future — figuring out investigations, law enforcement, proceedings, and the like. There was a sort of familiarity there, at least. ]
. . . [That tired dozing is hard to miss, so he, a bit reluctantly gets off the bed.] You should rest. We can talk more later. [He's wondering if Asougi just let him talk to give him some form of comfort. He still still wasn't ready to part with him. He rather stay here with him, make sure he won't just....disappear. He's trying his best not to show it, but one cannot simply hide their emotions here. Now there's a subtle chill in the air, picking up on his uneasiness. Distractions, distractions--]
I'll cook your favorite tonight, so you'll have something to look forward to when you wake up.
[ Truth be told, if he could, he'd probably sleep for days at this point — if his headache allowed it, anyway. Asougi reaches down to pull off his boots, then gingerly lays back. He could change and get cleaned up later and— whatever, when he wasn't quite as exhausted as he was right now. ]
[After a moment, he'll leave the room so Asougi could rest in piece, though he remain out in the main area of the attic, pacing about, sitting on the couch, reading, just trying to keep himself busy. Eventually, he'll manage to convince himself to stop lingering around and actually go out and get the ingredients to even make dinner tonight.
A few hours will have passed by the time Naruhodou returns with the ingredients and supplies he had originally intended to go out and buy. Once he's home too, he goes around opening the windows, cause he definitely could feel the dampness now with all the indoor rain they've been having. Once he's in the attic and gets the windows open there, he stares over at the door where Asougi was sleeping on the other side.
....At least, he hopes he's still there. He suppose to make sure Asougi wakes up at some point, so he'll slowly open the door and poke his head in.]
In fact, Asougi seems to have pretty much passed out the moment that Naruhodou closed the door, though not before being mildly sensible and at least discarding his gloves and cravat off to one side, with his sword still in its fancy sheath, leaning against the wall nearby. The one thing he didn't do was sleep with his back to the door; otherwise, he's been dead to the world for several hours. — Figuratively, this time.
When the door opens though, Asougi stirs just a bit. ]
[...You know, that outfit looks good on him, now that Naruhodou's not a mess and actually gets a good look at Asougi change in attire. Guess it was inevitable he'd have a change of clothes, being in Britain. Appearance aside, Naruhodou will close the door behind him and settle himself in front of the bed.]
Asougi...? Um, there's still a few more hours before dinner, so...if you want to sleep a little more, you can.
[ He opens his eyes slowly, seeming mildly disoriented at first. Where was— what was— . . . right. Right. This wasn't London, these weren't the quarters Vortex had placed him in, and he wasn't some nameless, faceless figure lurking in the city any more. Asougi. He was Asougi. Is Asougi, for better or for worse.
It takes him a moment or two but once he's gathered his bearings enough, Asougi sits up slowly, running a hand over his face as if to wipe that moment of tired confusion away. ]
